Shirley & Mayhew ~ A Landmark Vineyards Wedding

Two gamers bring their cottage core vision to life

Shirley & Mayhew are two technology driven, crossword puzzle loving, extremely sweet old souls that I had the privilege of working with for a stunner of a wedding at Landmark Vineyards. Read on to see how the ideas that were hatched during our very first call come to life at one of my all time favorite venues.

Landmark Vineyards is gorgeous all year-round, but contains some extra magic in the spring. The grounds are covered with florals in full bloom, the grass is vibrant (& extra green) and everything just looks and feels fresh. So when Shirley reached out for a wedding design partner, I was all in – and when she asked what I thought about a cottage core wedding theme I jumped at the chance! If you aren’t familiar with “cottage core”, it is perfect for the bride and groom that like to escape modern life and retreat on a rainy Sunday with a good book and cozy blanket. It features things like floral prints, lace, mismatched furniture and other vintage elements. It’s not right for every venue or every couple, but was perfect for Shirley and Mayhew’s springtime wedding day at Landmark.

While deciding how to craft this look, we started with the reception, and worked our way back to the ceremony. For dining we incorporated a combination long wooden farm tables with lace runners and banquet tables with simple white tablecloths. Each table had their own charger plate, b&b’s, patterned glass votives and different colored water glasses. Shirley wanted to make sure it looked fun and whimsical but not overly “fussy”, so we kept the chairs, wine glasses and flutes the same on all the tables to give it a bit of cohesiveness. The florals, by the lovely and amazingly talented Alexa Calef of Vanda Florals, were a combination of different styles of bud florals vases with bright colorful flowers in each. It was somehow understated and stunning – exactly what we were looking for!

The ceremony had a combination of bright & oh so beautiful blooming aisle florals and a simply decorated floral arch. It was the perfect way to elevate the ceremony space while still letting the natural beauty of Landmark Vineyards shine.

After the ceremony and reception had been designed, it was just a matter of adding a few “cottage core” touches throughout the event. Things like a watercolor signage, floral print & lace dresses and a children’s library with handwritten reviews by the bride and groom. The result was romantic, whimsical and absolutely perfect.

Shirley and Mayhew’s wedding was full of laughter, love and a reminder that when it comes to wedding design – if you can dream it you can do it. Thanks again to these two lovebirds for letting me partner on their dream come true!
